Into the sublime landscape after Caspar David Friedrich

I drove into this beautiful landscape in the Lake District  where i felt i was in the middle of a Caspar David Friedrich watercolour. Awesome stillness and such breathtaking subtlety of  colours......  where did land and sky began and end? Or was I at that point?

Early morning mist obscures

I woke early to capture some photos on Hampstead Heath. I was struck by the breathtaking beauty of the mist rolling through the land creating another place i could imagine i could step through...and yet when i tried it was elusive always several paces away from me. Yet I was aware of the clarity of the place i was stood in although in although surrounded by mist.....sometimes the Liminal is like that, clear glimpses through the confusion.

The Albert Launches

The Albert launches in a spectacular wind which nearly blew away the golden leaves I tied on the tree outside to lure attention to the amazing events unfolding inside.

The toilets offered a twilight blue glow with this shot, echoing the Albert's interim and temporary feel. All will change in time meanwhile.....check out the website for events and workshops

The Future beckons ...in The Albert NW6

I'm really excited to be starting my residency at The Albert in 2013. The studio is painted, the trestle table laid out and materials assembled! Developing the theme of transition and focusing specifically on the areas of breaking through and transformation i hope to make sculpture again now i have a place to experiment and make some mess!!

Glimpse of A Space In-Between the land and sea

This late winter day was full of brilliant sunshine and the sea receded to reveal land which beckoned.....

Post death.... line them up!

What happens when you die? where does your soul rest if indeed we have one? Well in Hampstead you get to have a bench and other people sit on it and possibly reflect on your life or not. And the flux and flow of life continues...as indeed does the line of benches

Halloween at The Albert

Had an amazing night at The Albert last night getting children to write spells then dip their arms into a bucket of cold jelly brains.....then the horror of the unknown really came into play. The choice .. settle for an eyeball or plunge deeper to find a worm?... the excitement versus the unknown? The liminal....never easy.

A blaze of glory

For two days a year this bush transforms and looks like it appears on fire with vivid color then dies off! Its a spectacular way to live life I think.

The Albert Transforms

THE ALBERT

Transformation starts to take place at the Old British Legion club in Kilburn. It will be a meanwhile space for artists and performers for the next ten months. First the flags, poppies  darts and carpets have to go to make way for new possibilities. Meanwhile its rolling sleeves up time and gutting the interior!

Hanging around...

Feeling uncertain and in suspension, which way will things fall? Do I keep open to possibilities or do i make a decision ... many things are in the balance ... staying with the feeling and trust something will fall into place or flood with unseen possibilitys?

The Space In-Between

I visited Yarnmouth by yacht and before we sailed the next crisp February  morning i found this pier stretching out into the foggy sea. Still and quiet taking my gaze out to the unknown, no-one to be seen. I sailed 10 minutes later into that sea and looked around and found the unknown to be tranquil and quite extraordinary. I could have been anywhere and knew i was in the space in -between.

Private view and installation shots from "Space In-Between"

The show was a great success in so many ways! A busy PV with friends and family ( big thanks always !) but many other artists, professionals, visitors from Christ Church Spitalfields Arts and many lovely people i didn't know. The visitors continued to stream in over the weekend, many from Photomonth and others just passing by and more friends and associates!  The Artists talk went well with support from Lisa-Raine Hunt from the Christ Church team. Finally great feedback and good sales of work which always brings a smile.

Exhibiting in a liminal place

This is the crypt in Christ Church Spitalfieds where I will be exhibiting work in my first solo show "The Space In-Between". It is very atmospheric and has been used historically for burial and the passage from life to the afterlife and more recently as a dwelling place for homeless visitors living on the margins of society. For a few days it will also house my show 11-13 November.

Pools of liquid sky

Marvelled at Roni Horn's exhibition at Hauser & Worth. Large pots of liquid blue reminding me of sky, sea and glimpses of infinity just sitting there waiting to pour melt or coagulate. I am always inspired by artists who keep their work so simple and beautiful....reminds me to keep working the way I do

Which way?

Sometimes it's hard to know if the cloud is filling up or if the blue is breaking through, it's on the threshold and it's liminality right there up in the sky....
